Getting a New Job Through Current Coworkers
If you are ready for a new job, you may have to look no farther than the next cubicle. It is likely that your office is full of professionals that have worked at another company and, for one reason or another decided to make a move. After all, you are thinking of making a move as well, right? People decide to take another job for many reasons. Perhaps another company would offer better experience, better pay, or a better vacation package.
Ask your coworkers about their previous employment. Would they recommend working at any of their previous companies? If so, be sure to learn about these companies and find out if they are hiring. In this way, you can lead yourself to a new company by simply speaking with coworkers. Perhaps your coworker can give you the name of someone at their old company to whom you should speak. If this person still has a good relationship with people from his or her old company, perhaps they can recommend someone that you should speak to. If your search through coworkers goes as far as getting an interview, perhaps you can also get a great letter of recommendation. Also, remember that coworkers are great for networking. If you are looking to move to a new company, speak to a few coworkers that you trust. Even if they have only every worked for your present company, they may still have great contacts that can lead you to a great job. Ask around and see what you come up with. It is very important to remember, however, that you should be respectful about your job search while you are still in your present office. You should not speak to too many people about wanting to leave. If your employer learns that you are speaking to half of the people in the company about getting a new job, then he or she may feel slighted by you. This could make it very difficult to get a good letter of recommendation from your employer in the future. Also, other people in the office may feel uneasy speaking openly about helping you to get another job while you are in the office. If you plan on getting your next job through a job recruiter, then be sure to ask around at the office about this. It is possible that some of the other people in your company have gotten jobs through a recruiter and can recommend someone to you. If you get a good recommendation for a recruiter from a coworker, then be sure to follow through. If your recruiter has a relationship with your present company, then he or she also probably has connections with other companies in your field.
